About Our Friend Dan "Home Boy" Holmes

Dan Holmes came to the Arrowhead Hotshot Crew from Mount Rainier NP in May 2004.  He spent the season with us, traveling with the crew to wildfire assignments, all over the western United States.

On October 2nd, 2004, Dan was killed by a burning snag while working on the Grant Grove West Prescribed Fire in Kings Canyon National Park.

During the short time most of us knew Dan, he infected us with his passion for life.  He lived his life to the fullest extent.

These pages are dedicated to Dan.  They reflect his short time with Arrowhead.  Read the Condolences and you will learn of Dan's friends, family and the genuine love that so many felt for him.  You can also read about Dan's journey home to Rochester New Hampshire.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to the Wildland Fire Fighter Foundation.  There is a memorial fund set up in the name of Daniel Holmes.

Donations (Memorial Gift) can also be made to the Sierra Club in his name.
